CGG of France and Veritas from Houston, Texas – two of the world’s largest seismic surveying & exploration – recently merged their worldwide interests. To celebrate this, and to involve as many staff as possible, a simultaneous presentation and party took place in eight venues around the globe, connected by satellite. The production company was French, with all coordination handled out of a hub in Houston. This company, Creative Spirit of Paris and Cannes, chose Creative Staging to be their partner for the UK event in the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf.
The sail set was designed, supplied and rigged overlooking the waters of Canary Wharf and extensive lighting was installed to enhance this set, and the unique attributes of the venue. As well as the satellite link, which was to be main form of worldwide communication within the event; ISDN and broadband web links were established for back up and control along with further analogue lines for technical communications.
Camera relays were provided to the large screen in the venue and for transmission to Houston, with special attention paid to matching the remote and local signals to take account of delays. Delay was also a criteria of the sound design, which also had to take into account the ‘unique’ acoustic of the venue.
The events worldwide went very well, with the UK making a strong contribution to this success, and in the words of the producer “That was just perfect”.
